Scots care! Supporting local piping and drumming school

Recently, the St. Andrew’s Society visited the Montreal Piping and Drumming School (MPDS). The Society is supporting the school by helping them purchase three new drums and drum harnesses—an investment that will allow the next generation of pipers and drummers to continue honing their skills and sharing their passion for Scotland’s rich musical heritage. We are proud to see this dedicated group of instructors helping to keep Scottish arts and culture thriving into the future.

Meet a student in the educational aid program

The St. Andrew's Society has supported education throughout its history, and is proud to be able to provide financial assistance to qualified students. Many thanks to our members whose generosity makes this program possible. Scots care!

Lynne Brampton Lidkea is completing her Diploma of Ministry at Presbyterian College in Montreal as part of her continuing journey toward ministry within The Presbyterian Church in Canada. She previously earned a Master of Divinity degree from Tyndale University College and Seminary with a focus on counselling and has worked with several non-profit organizations supporting individuals in addiction recovery and youth mental health. Before returning to school, she served as a Youth and Family Coordinator at her home congregation, where she deepened her call to help people of all ages explore faith, belonging, and community life.

Lynne’s Scottish heritage is a foundational part of her family story. Her great-great-great-grandmother, Agnes Watt, was born in 1819 in Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland, and her great-great-great-grandfather, James Creighton, was born in 1812 in Dumfries-shire, Scotland. Their descendants settled in the Ottawa area and gradually made their way into the Bancroft and Belleville areas through the late 1800s. Together, they established roots that have quietly shaped her family’s story in Canada for generations.

Lynne is grateful for the St. Andrew’s Society’s support of theological students and its commitment to honouring the rich threads of faith and heritage that continue to shape lives today.

Lynne's scholarship was funded by the St. Andrew's Society and awarded by The Presbyterian College.
