The principal purpose and function of the St. Andrew's Society of Montreal is to assist persons of Scottish birth or descent who are in need, and also to grant educational aid to qualified students of Scottish ancestry by means of bursaries and scholarships.

The society is also involved in promoting and financing social, historical, cultural and sporting activities relating to the preservation of Scottish traditions and customs. For example, the activities of The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada Cadets' Pipes and Drums have been assisted by the Society since its inception in the early 1950s. Provision is thereby ensured for the availability of future members for The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada and also the 78th Fraser Highlanders.

In order to finance the educational and charitable work of the Society, funds are raised from the proceeds of annual events, such as:

- Burns Supper Article by historian Mary Johnston Cox.

- Whisky-Tasting Evening Article by historian Mary Johnston Cox.

- St. Andrew’s Ball

All of these activities, including the Family Highland Games and the Children’s Christmas Party are accomplished entirely by the voluntary efforts of the Society’s members.

New members are always welcome and are cordially invited to attend our events and participate in the preservation of their Scottish heritage.
